Discussion with Vladyslav Havrylov, Fellow from Georgetown University

Over the summer, ACHF President Lena Denman spent time learning even more about the crisis in Ukraine. She had the opportunity to attend a powerful Georgetown University webinar: “Negotiating the End of the War in Ukraine: Who is on the Children’s Side?”

One of the speakers, Vladyslav Havrylov, is a Ukrainian scientist and Collaborative Fellow with Georgetown University’s Collaborative on Global Children’s Issues. His work focuses on the forcible transfer, deportation, adoption and re-education of Ukrainian children by russia. He also serves as an analytical researcher with Ukrainian NGOs East-SOS and Media Initiative for Human Rights.

Havrylov’s recent work exposes how russia is abducting Ukrainian children from occupied territories and coercing them into youth paramilitary groups — erasing their identities and violating international law. He also warns that international efforts to track these crimes are losing momentum, putting justice for Ukraine’s children and any lasting peace at risk.

In July 2025, Lena sat down at a cafe in Kyiv to ask questions and introduce Americans to the issues Vladyslav studies.
